What really happened at Roswell? There are mountains of papers and documents including film, video, tapes and statements about aliens and flying saucers, but where is the real evidence? A recorded and much documented fact is that on the evening of July 8, 1947 during a severe thunder and lightning storm, a flying saucer reportedly crashed on a ranch in Roswell, New Mexico. A number of nearby residents reportedly observed an unidentified flying object zipping horizontally across the sky at high speed and low altitude. Several people also reported and confirmed hearing a loud explosion. Early next morning after the storm, the farmer who owned the property went out to check on his holdings, including a herd of sheep he was concerned about. This is when he encountered the widely scattered wreckage which included strange fabrics and metal-like substances. After consulting with local authorities, the US Army was duly notified and arrived en masse to secure the site and to remove the debris. According to the news of the day, the Army initially confirmed that it had recovered an alien flying disc but later retracted their statement implying that the discovered wreckage was the remains of a weather balloon. Higher ups in the government were notified and duly responded by declaring the area off limits. However, several people claimed to have seen small alien bodies which were hastily transported away - never to be seen again. A Government cover-up was immediately suspected since all access to the Roswell, New Mexico crash site was subsequently denied to civilians and very little information was forthcoming. In 1997, after 50 years of public pressure, the US Air Force finally came up with their version and final report of the highly publicized and heretofore 'confidential' Roswell Incident. According to this report, the dead aliens were in fact nothing but test dummies used in experimental high altitude parachute drops. However, such experiments were not conducted in 1947 and did not take place until well into the 1950's. In the mean time, there exist eyewitness testimonials. Those that are still living stick to their stories claiming they actually saw and / or handled physical evidence from the crash site including several bodies being recovered and removed from the main site and nearby areas. Some claim they have been ordered not to talk about their experiences. So what is the truth here? Obviously there was a wreckage of some sort. The Roswell incident is undoubtedly one of the most popular and the largest single contributor to the highly controversial issues of UFO and alien invasion subjects and speculation around the world. The one positive result is that this incident put Roswell, New Mexico on the map which is still today drawing thousands of curious visitors to their 'flying saucer museum' and a multitude of other 'alien' attractions.
